Supporting Us

Sir Walter Mildmay founded the College in 1584 on the basis of promoting learning. He started the tradition of fundraising for Emmanuel, which has continued ever since; today, philanthropy plays a critical role in shaping and supporting the college’s life and work. We are very grateful to the many members and friends who support us.

Why Give

The happy, successful and thriving college that Emmanuel is today, exists thanks only to the generosity of our members and friends, past and present.

Today, we rely on donations to add to and improve what we offer our community, using them to make forward-looking and transformative changes that would not otherwise be possible.

Our supporters give for many reasons. Some are grateful for the free university education they received and give back now to ease the financial burden for today’s students. For others, Emma enabled their career, and they want to pay forward their success to those who follow in their footsteps. And many give to support the next generation of people and research that will shape and change our world for the better.

Whatever your reason for giving, there are several ways you can support us and make a difference. Every gift, of whatever size, will help ensure that what makes Emmanuel such a special place to live, work and study is preserved for future generations of our community.

Message from the Master

Over the generations the strength and generosity of our community’s members and friends has enabled a community of academic excellence that we are rightly proud of. In my tenure as Master it has been humbling to see the level of altruism and kindness to the next generation. Looking forward I do hope that you will play a part in ensuring that future members will continue to flourish and prosper in this very special place.

Thank you most warmly,

Doug Chalmers CB DSO OBE, Master
